Prayer room FAQs

We've tried to cover off the most frequently asked questions, but if there's something else you'd like ask you can use the details on the Contact Us page.

The Basics

Where is the Prayer Room?
The dedicated prayer room is located on Surrey Avenue, Cheltenham, GL51 8DF. The room accessed directly from the driveway. There's is limited off and on street parking, so please park considerately.  Once you book you will receive an email with more details.  If you've never used the room before please contact us via email (home@westchelthop.community) so we can say hello and explain how to gain access.

How do I get involved?
If you want to spend time in the room please sign up for a slot on the website. By signing up you help us make sure we fill every slot during the week - and it also helps make sure no-one else appears in the room when you're using it (unless you invited them!).

Booking outside of a Day and Night prayer week is possible, but we may contact you to discuss access arrangements.

Can I book more than one slot?
Yes - but we want to make sure that everyone who wants to take part is able to do so. Please only book a couple of slots to begin with and then check back closer to the weekend. If you're a fan of 2am slots then there may be plenty to choose from!

I can’t see the dates I'm looking for. What am I missing?
The grid only shows 7 days on a page. There’s a red arrow in the top right hand corner of the grid you can use to move forward to future weeks.  Our Day and Night Prayer weeks are clearly marked green.

I haven't received an email confirming my booking, or providing more details.

The best thing to do is to check your Spam or Junk folder.  We find that sometimes the confirmation emails end up there.  If you can't find it then email us via home@westchelthop.community and we'll send you further details.

About the prayer room

How do I get in?

If there's someone in the room before you, then all you need do on arrival is to use the black door bell to ring, next to the white double doors which are the entrance to the Prayer Room.   This will also ring next door so we can make sure you get in. Please make sure you're on time for your slot so that the person before you isn't kept waiting.

We know that sometimes things don't always go to plan, so there will be arrangements in place if you turn up and find the room locked and no-one inside. We'll let you know about these in advance where possible - most likely by providing you with a code to open the key box by the door - but you can always give us a call on 07974 223 638 if there's a problem.

What can I do in the Prayer Room?
That's a difficult question to answer! The room is about having a space to meet with God, and different people may do that in different ways. You may want to sit quietly, read a Bible, play music, draw, sing (in or out of tune!), pray with a friend, or use the contents of the room to guide your prayers. There's no set pattern, but the room will have a number of things in it to help you.

What's in the room?
The room will contain lots of resources to help you pray too. This might be small stations which guide you in thinking about a particular topic or theme, there'll be a Bible or two, art materials so you can draw or write. There'll be a Bluetooth speaker you can connect your phone to if you want to play music.

The room has a couple of chairs and a small table.

What if I need the toilet?
Unfortunately, there are no toilet facilities available in our prayer room.  If this may prevent you from using the room please let us know as we may be able to make arrangements for you.

Can children use the room?
Absolutely, yes! There are no specific slots aimed at children and young people, but the room does contain some prayer activities designed for use by all ages.

We ask that all under-16s are accompanied by their parent/carer while using the room - and no under 18s to use the room between 10pm & 7am.

Security & Safeguarding

Is the room safe?

We've established the permanent prayer room with safety in mind. The door to the room can easily be secured so when you're in the room you can make sure you feel safe. The area around the room is well lit at night and a 'spy hole' allows you to see outside the room before opening the door.  There is parking on the driveway and street immediately outside the room.

There'll be an emergency contact number in the room too so if you feel unsafe you can contact one of our on call team.

Overnight there will be someone sleeping elsewhere on the property whom you can contact in the event you need support.

Can someone else book the room at the same time as me?
That's up to you! When you book a slot on the website you can select 'Exclusive Use' which means no-one else can book the same slot as you. If you don't tick this box then anyone else is able to book to use the room at the same time.

How are you managing safeguarding?
Keeping everyone who uses the room safe is really important. All under-16s must be accompanied by their parent or carer, and under 18s can only use the room between 7am and 10pm.
